A UNCW thesis or dissertation is submitted as an electronic document, then the Dean of the Graduate School must review, approve, and sign it. Once the Grad School has aproved and accepted all of the theses and dissertations submitted in a semester, they provide the electronic copies to the library. The library will then add these electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) to their web server, and catalog each thesis and dissertation. The entire process from submission to cataloging can take several months to complete, and the steps are necessary to ensure that the theses are available and accessible to the research community.
